FlowerChick.com Mission: Our mission at FlowerChick.com is to provide practical tips, advice, and inspiration for Zone 5 & Zone 6 gardeners. Our ongoing goal is to help you plan, develop, and enjoy your indoor and outdoor gardening projects to fully experience the joy and happiness of gardening!
My friends and family gave me the nickname “Flower Chick” about 30 years ago since I love to garden and became the “go to” person for gardening advice and plant suggestions. I live in the Chicago area which is considered Zone 5 – 6 on the USDA plant hardiness chart – so Zone 5 & 6 are my specialty!
On this site I’ll show you some of my favorite plants and offer care tips. I prefer “lower maintenance” flowers and shrubs since I work full-time and don’t want to be a slave to my garden. Digging in the soil, planting, and the thrill of a new bloom are all very therapeutic for me, but I don’t want to spend my whole weekend toiling in the yard.
We travel to many Zone 5 – 6 public gardens / arboretums / horticultural destinations and love to showcase them here in our “Visiting Midwest Gardens” series. We hope these inspire you to visit these beautiful places and/or find ideas to incorporate into your own gardens.
I’ll show you my personal easy care plant favorites for Zone 5 & 6. Gardening is one of the most satisfying and rewarding hobbies for all ages and skill levels.
